Inventory for a Single Store That Also Sells Online

Keep store and online stock in step: sync failures, stocktakes, partial receiving, barcodes and reorder points for one register and one buyer.

Accurate inventory is what lets a single store sell the same shelf in person and online without overselling. The guides here cover five jobs that decide whether your numbers hold. Find why counts drift, count the shelf, and receive deliveries that arrive in pieces. Then label products that already have UPCs, and know when to reorder.

Why this pillar matters in 2026

Shopify changed its inventory tools a lot this year. Stocky, the app many POS stores used for stocktakes and purchasing, is no longer available after August 31, 2026, per Shopify’s own help page. Purchase orders now create linked transfers for receiving, since June 22, 2026. Stock counts that staff run on the POS app arrived on September 28, 2026, for POS Pro locations.

If your routine was built on Stocky, every one of these guides touches something you need to rebuild.

Who these guides are for

These pages assume one store, one register and one person doing the buying. There is no developer, and the owner probably runs the marketing too. Every guide uses Shopify’s current menu names and button labels, so you can follow along in your admin. Where Shopify’s own route is wrong for a single store, we say so and name the alternative.

Canada and US both apply. Where currency, GST/HST, sales tax or customs change the answer, the guide says how.

Where to start

Start with the sync failures guide if your website and your shelf disagree today. It is the anchor of this pillar: a table of failure patterns by POS type, with the cause and the fix for each. Most of the other guides fix one of the causes it names.

If your numbers are fine but you are coming off Stocky, start with stocktakes and reorder points.
